The NILE is proud to announce CC Lenas Kitty, donated by Clint Casterline Quarter Horses as the 2023 NILE Raffle Filly!

CC Lenas Kitty is a beautiful gray filly with a personality to match. She is a sweet filly who is extremely gentle. She is definitely an in-your-pocket type of horse. CC Lena’s Kitty has a lot of legendary horses in her pedigree! She is by Blue Cats DR and out of CC French Lena Bar which are cornerstones in Clint Casterline’s breeding program. Her great grandsires need no introduction. On the top side is High Brow Cat (LTE $110,800), the NCHA’s #1 All-Time Leading Sire, siring earners of more than $90,000,000! Her grandsire on the bottom side is the legendary Frenchmans Guy, who sired 1,011 barrel money-earners and his progeny earnings are over $14 million.

Filly donated by Clint Casterline Quarter Horses

The NILE filly has been graciously donated by Clint Casterline, owner of Clint Casterline Quarter Horses located in Wolf Point, MT. Clint is one of the longest consistent consigners at the NILE. Every year for over 20 years he has sold several weanlings and yearlings at the Gold Buckle Select Horse Sale. His horses can now be found nationwide from the East Coast in Virginia and New York, south to Georgia, Kentucky and Oklahoma, and up the west coast to Washington state. Many of his buyers are repeat customers that come back for the quality and consistency of his colts.

Clint began breeding Quarter Horse when he was in high school with an own daughter of Classy Bar. Despite some set-backs he continued to build his herd and would go on to add studs like Triple A Quincy, A Sure Doc and Frenchmans Bar Guy. More recently the Casterline Quarter Horses have included offspring from Blue Cats DR who has a long line of AQHA royal bloodlines. Not only are his studs well-bred, but his mares have some of the biggest names in the AQHA industry in their pedigrees. Casterline says “You’ve got to have a good broodmare band.  You can use popular and good studs, but if the mares aren’t any good, you’re wasting your time.” Clint’s philosophy is “I breed horses for 100 percent performance and disposition. If you can’t get along with them, there’s no use in selling them to someone else.”

Trained and Ridden by Alexis Herbert, Kinnear, WY

CC Lena’s Kitty is currently in training at Split Arrow Versatility Horses in Kinnear, WY. Trainer Alexis Herbert has her under saddle and is pleased with her progress to date.  She will continue to work the filly until the sale in October. Alexis breaks and trains colts from owners across the West. In addition to training versatility horses, Alexis owns Wind River Western, producing high-quality, durable leather goods. Her leatherwork, including headstalls, breast collars and other tack is hand-made and hand-tooled. She is the sponsor and craftswoman of the NILE AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge class awards and will make and donate prizes to class winners. Come see Alexis at the NILE horse events taking place at Millers Horse Palace October 16-18.

Each year the NILE sells tickets for a chance to win a top-notch horse donated by an established ranch. These horses are some of the best in Montana and surrounding states. The public has the opportunity to win a horse for $5 and the donating ranch gets publicity for its breeding program. Tickets cost $5 for one or $25 for six. The drawing is during the NILE Gold Buckle Select Horse Sale, the last Saturday of the NILE Stock Show & Rodeo. Winners may take ownership of the horse or take the proceeds from selling the horse during the sale. Earnings from ticket sales go toward NILE youth programs.
